Using Comparatives and Superlatives in English

What are Comparatives?

Comparatives and superlatives are forms of adjectives or adverbs used to compare two or more things in terms of a particular quality or characteristic. Typically, they are formed by adding "-er" to the end of the shorter adjective or adverb or by placing "more" before a longer word.

  1. Quiet - Quieter
  2. Cheap - Cheaper
  3. Expensive - More expensive
  4. Easy - Easier
  5. Difficult - More difficult

What are Superlatives?

Superlatives are used to compare three or more things, showing the highest or lowest degree of a particular quality among them. They are typically formed by adding "-est" to the end of the adjective or adverb if it is shorter than three syllables. Otherwise, they are formed by adding "most" before a longer adjective your adverb. 

  1. Quiet - Quietest
  2. Cheap - Cheapest
  3. Expensive - Most expensive
  4. Easy - Easiest
  5. Difficult - Most difficult
