In English, there are several types of questions that serve different purposes and are formed in different ways. Here are some common types of questions:

  1. Yes/No Questions: These questions elicit a simple "yes" or "no" answer.

    • Example: Is it raining?
  2. Wh-Questions: These questions start with question words like "who," "what," "where," "when," "why," and "how" to request specific information.

    • Example: Where are you going?
  3. Choice Questions: Also known as alternative questions, they offer a selection of options.

    • Example: Do you prefer tea or coffee?
  4. Tag Questions: These are short questions added to the end of a statement to request confirmation or agreement.

    • Example: It's cold outside, isn't it?
  5. Open-Ended Questions: These questions allow for more detailed responses and cannot be answered with a simple "yes" or "no."

    • Example: How was your weekend?
  6. Rhetorical Questions: These questions are asked for effect or to make a point, and no answer is expected.

    • Example: Could you possibly make any more noise?
  7. Embedded Questions: These are questions embedded within a statement or another question.

    • Example: Can you tell me what time it is?
  8. Leading Questions: These questions are worded in a way that suggests a preferred answer or influences the respondent.

    • Example: You're not going to eat that, are you?
  9. Direct Questions: These are straightforward questions that directly ask for information.

    • Example: What time does the movie start?
  10. Indirect Questions: These questions are more polite or less direct and often involve a statement with an embedded question.

    • Example: Could you tell me where the nearest restroom is?
